On December 28, 2017, the amendments to the RA Law "On Citizens Who Have Not Passed Compulsory Military Service"  in Armenia have entered into force.
The law, which was adopted in 2003 and had been extended for several times, will operate until December 31, 2019.

This is the last opportunity for those who had avoided from the autumn military conscription of 1992 to December 1, 2017, and for whom the criminal prosecution has been launched, and who are over 27 (reservists officers 35) years old or until 27 (35) years have resulted in acquiring grounds for exemption from compulsory military service or withdrawal from compulsory military service provided for by the RA Law on Compulsory Military Service.
Citizens were given the last chance with an increase in compensation payment.
Thus, if the amount of payment for each military conscription made up AMD 100,000 (in the case of conscripted military service, it made up to 1,800,000 AMD for 18 conscripts), then now it was doubled and amounts to 200,000 AMD (3.600.000 AMD for a maximum of 18 conscripts).
These fees shall be credited to a special account opened by the ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia and shall be used to meet the military needs.
Within a month after payment of the prescribed fee, a person shall be given the decision on the termination of criminal prosecution against him the military certificate.
According to legislators, the upcoming termination of the law is due to the fact that in practice it is perceived in society as not a legal opportunity to return them to the homeland without having concerns about criminal responsibility, but a legal opportunity of not passing mandatory military service.
After the termination of the law, all persons who failed its mandatory military service shall be subjected to criminal liability in a prescribed manner.
